Bin Liner Size Chart

Find the right liner for your bin by capacity and shape. This page covers how to measure a bin, the common industry standard sizes, and a reference chart by bin capacity.

How to measure

Measure the bin first, then choose the liner

Bin liners are usually listed as folded width × open width × length. Measure your bin's opening and height first, then work out the liner size from there.

Round bins

Measure the rim circumference and divide by two to get the open width. Add half the rim diameter to the bin height to get the liner length.

Rectangular bins

Depth plus width gives the open width. Height plus width gives the liner length, and the added width provides the overhang.

Selection tips

Allow enough overhang

  • A liner should be at least 1.5 times the bin height so it covers the full body.
  • Allow roughly 7 inches (18 cm) of overhang for securing and tying.
  • Measuring the rim circumference is more accurate than measuring the diameter.
  • Wheelie bin liners are designed as liners, not for lifting when full.

Reference chart

Common standard sizes

These are common industry standard specifications. Capacities are approximate, and actual dimensions vary by bin model.

Use Approx. capacity Common size (inches) Common size (mm)
Small / sack holder — 16 × 25 × 28–38 406 × 635 × 711–965
Standard commercial sack ~70–90 L 18 × 29 × 38 457 × 725 × 965–975
Standard commercial sack (long) ~90 L 18 × 29 × 39 457 × 737 × 991
Short sack ~70 L 18 × 29 × 33–34 457 × 737 × 838–864
Catering ~100 L 18 × 32 × 38 457 × 813 × 965
Compactor ~150 L 22 × 33 × 47 559 × 838 × 1194
Wheelie bin (most common in UK and AU) ~240 L 30 × 46 × 54 762 × 1168 × 1372

Sizes are listed as folded width × open width × length. Non-gusseted liners are listed as open width × length only.

About this data

The figures on this page are general industry reference values, not the product specifications of any particular manufacturer. Actual sizes vary with the bin model, rim shape and how the liner is used, so please measure before ordering. If you need a specific size made to order, we can produce to your specification.

FAQ

Bin liner sizing: common questions

Measure the rim circumference and divide by two for the open width. Then take the bin height and add half the rim diameter, or the bin width, for the liner length. For a rectangular bin, depth plus width gives the open width.
